Pachelbels Canon

 
Experience a Quality piece of music, "Pachelbel's Canon".
1. Say "Down 3, Up 1, Down 3, Up 1" several times so you get familiar with the basic sequence. The pattern is broken right near the end and then starts over.
2. The starting point of the pattern - 1 octave below middle C on the piano.
3. PLAY and SAY : C " Down 3 " , G " Up 1 ", A " Down 3 ", E " Up 1 ", F " Down 3 ", C " AND BACK ", F " UP 1 ", G " Start Again ".

5. Listen to the Bass line while you put your hand in the air to represent the pitch and direction of the melody as it is being played. The shape of the melody is called the "Melodic Contour".
6. The Bass line of Pachelbel's Canon will look something similar to this:
  7. Play the pattern on the piano and sing: C " Down 3 " , G " Up 1 ", A " Down 3 ", E " Up 1 ", F " Down 3 ", C " AND BACK ", F " UP 1 ", G " Start Again ".
8. Look below at the written notation of Pachelbel's Canon with a few treble clef themes that you can easily play on the piano with practice! Notice the bass line note patterns. By this time, it is no surprise how the notes have a steady rhythm and the direction of the bass line. You always can revisit the orchestral version of it throughout the year to bring back good memories.
